Vaginosis bacterial infection may also point to other viruses' present that could cause cervical dysplasia, such as human papilloma virus.
Poor health, hot weather, poor hygiene, use of an intrauterine device, wearing tight underwear, and douching can cause an imbalance in the vagina. E. coli, a normal inhabitant of the rectum can cause the condition. Menopause and diabetes increasing the chance of developing this infection.

The primary cause of this infection is the overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria (e.coli) and the Gardnerells organisms. Small amounts of these bacteria and organisms are always present in a healthy vagina. The infection occurs when the vaginal balance is disrupted. Several causes are attributed to the development of this condition. Vaginosis bacterial infection may also point to other viruses' present that could cause cervical dysplasia, such as human papilloma virus.
